A mock demo of a payroll-cycle workflow

Every run, the right approver, before the cut‑off.

PayrollApproval shows one payroll cycle as a workflow: input checks, approval routing by rule, an exception queue and deadline tracking, with an audit trail behind every step.

All data on this site is simulated. 32 runs and 26 exceptions are seeded.

Try the routing rules

Change the facts about a run and watch the approval path rebuild itself, with the reason for each step.

Routed to

  1. Payroll specialist

Every run gets a first review against the input checks.

Releases automatically once checks pass

What it shows

  • Input checks first

Totals, bank formats, duplicates and variance against last cycle are checked before anyone approves anything.

  • Rule-based routing

The route is decided by explicit rules, so the same run always reaches the same approvers and the reason is on screen.

  • An exception queue

Problems leave the main flow and wait in one queue with an owner, an age and a defined way to clear them.

  • Deadline tracking

Hours to the bank cut-off against work still needed, so slipping runs show up before the cut-off, not after.

  • An audit trail

Every stage, check, decision and approver is written to a per-run log that can be read back in order.

  • Visual and versioned

The flow is drawn, not coded, and a saved version stays fixed so an approval path can be reviewed before it goes live.

The workflow engine underneath

This pattern maps onto FluidGrids workflow orchestration: a form or schedule trigger starts a run, validate, if and switch nodes handle checks and routing, a wait node holds a run for sign-off, and each execution keeps a live run log. This page is a simulation of the pattern, not a screen of a live payroll system.
